FAQs

Here some of our most frequently asked questions. If your query isn't answered please contact us, we'll be happy to help.

Q: How do I place an order?

A: Simply browse our selection of wines under the 'Our Wines' menu option. When you have chosen your wine(s) click on a 'Buy Now' button or select the 'Order' menu option. You will be taken to our 'Order' page where you need to complete your name and delivery details and then select the quantity of each wine that you want to order. If you wish to continue browsing simply click the 'Save Basket' button before moving to another page. When you are happy with your order, press the 'Checkout' button and you will be taken to an order summary page. If you wish to proceed with your order click the 'Place Order' button. You will then receive a confirmation e-mail with details of your order and how to make payment.

Q: Do I have to buy a full case?

A: We keep our prices competitive by having a minimum order of 12 bottles. However orders don't have to be in multiples of 12 (13, 18 or 99 bottle orders are all welcome!)

Q: Do I need to have an account with you to place an order?

A: Nope, just follow the order instructions to place your order and you're done.

Q: My order is a gift. Can I send a message with it?

A: Of course. Just drop us an e-mail with the message you want and we'll do the rest.

Q: I can't find a wine that you've previously stocked on your website.

A: The website shows the wines available for delivery in our warehouse now. We may have sold out of the wine or be awaiting new shipments. Even if we have no plans to bring it back let us know and if there's sufficient demand, we might change our minds!

Q: I want to re-order a wine I purchased previously, but have forgotten which one it was.

A: Contact us and we can tell you exactly what you've ordered in the past - we're sure we can track it down!

Q: What type of payment do you accept?

A: We accept payment by bank transfer - our details are on the invoice we'll send you - or you can settle up by good old fashioned cheque (payable to HC Wines and sent to 46 Oakland Avenue, York, YO31 1DF)

Q: How much do I pay for delivery?

A: Delivery charges are as follows:

  • Free delivery to YO postcodes
  • £9.95 per case elsewhere in England and southern Scotland
  • Higher prices may apply to Northern Ireland, Scottish Highlands and Islands, the Isle of Man, Isle of Wight and Channel Islands - please ask. For orders of 5 cases and above (60 bottles) please enquire as we may be able to offer a reduced delivery cost
  • For customers buying Windows Estate wine for which they have pre-paid in Australia, there are no further delivery charges payable

Q: I'm choosing wine for a special occasion. Can you help?

A: We'll do our best. Contact us and we'll be pleased to help.

Q: Do you cater for weddings?

A: We do. We can offer a complete service from advising you on wines, quantity required, and can supply and collect from the venue. We can even offer sale or return.

Q: I no longer want to receive your occasional e-mails. How can I unsubscribe?

A: Simply click the 'unsubscribe' link at the bottom of our newsletter e-mail.

Q: What qualifications do you have?

A: Both John and Andy hold the advanced certificate from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, and both hold a personal licence under the provisions of the 2005 Licensing Act.

Q: Do you offer wine tastings?

A: We do. You can find out more on the Tasting Events page. We regularly host these for all kinds of audiences and the feedback is always good. All our equipment is safety tested and we carry public liability insurance.

Q: Are you VAT registered?

A: Yes, our VAT registration number is 847 3702 13.
